Join us for a FREE, fun, and historical art workshop and exhibition tour at Monthaven Arts & Cultural Center.
Students will work with an art educator over the course of a 2-hour session that combines art appreciation, art history as well as a hands-on activity that once complete will come together to create a community-made quilt. This quilt will become part of The MACC’s permanent collection and will be displayed every year during Black History Month. This quilt tells the story of momentous Black American figures that influence our great nation.
Each student participating will learn about a variety of pre-selected Black American historical figures and then choose which one they want to put on their quilt square. The students will be provided with various mixed media art supplies to color and decorate their quilt square. These pieces will then be joined together and sewn by black quilters to create a one of a kind community crafted quilt.
